Learn it. Do it. Love it!
Welcome to Buzzards Sailing School
Our summer of fun-based instruction begins in June, and continues for eight weeks. Classes use Widgeons and 420s owned by Buzzards Sailing School (BSS) and a combination of school-owned and privately-owned International Optimist dinghies.
Buzzards Sailing School has three levels of instructors: Senior Instructors (SIs), Instructors (Is), and Junior Instructors (JIs). Our staff generally rises through the program from students to JIs, to Is, to SIs. This gives them a familiarity with the program and the local sailing area, and it helps to ensure that students have a team well-versed in our program. It also creates a fantastic sailing culture and community. SIs often race on their college teams and some Is and JIs race on high school teams.
Our goal is for all students to have a positive learning experience where they feel comfortable and enjoy being on the water. We are focused on safety and providing each student and class with proper supervision. Students will benefit most from the programs by registering for a minimum of four weeks or the full eight weeks. For Learn-to-Sail Widgeons and Learn-to-Sail Optimists, we strongly recommend at least two consecutive weeks of enrollment.
