WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT CLASSES
Yes! We sail on rainy days unless it is also very windy or there is the possibility of thunder and lightning. Please call us on the day of class with any questions. We do not offer refunds for classes canceled due to bad weather. Be sure your child brings adequate rain gear and warm clothing.
Safety is a top priority at BSS. All classes are held on the water. All parents should advise us upon registration of any swimming limitations their students may have. Any student who is not able to swim or tread water should not sail. BSS relies on parents and/or guardians to inform us of swimming limitations.
The BSS Race Team participates in several sponsored regattas each season. Regattas provide wonderful opportunities for students to gain experience and improve their skills. At the discretion of the racing coach, and in accordance with specific guidelines, selected teams will participate in regattas. Race team members may vary weekly, depending on student enrollment, skill, and interest. We do not guarantee that every student will attend regattas. Coaches will accompany racers to these identified regattas, and racers will use BSS boats and equipment.
While BSS will provide information and guidance on how to register for any sponsored regatta, registration fees are not covered by BSS. Students and parents are responsible for paying any regatta fees directly. Parents or guardians must also travel with their racing students to all regattas. View Calendar
BSS holds a mandatory information meeting at the beginning of the summer for all racing students and their parents. This is a valuable occasion to learn more about logistics and ask any questions.
Each Monday, after classes start for the week, our Program Administrator holds an optional parent meeting. This is an opportune time for parents to hear about the school, learn about class objectives for the week and upcoming regattas, and to ask questions. For parents who attend the meeting, we kindly ask you to stand aside while the classes get underway. Meetings will start at 9:05 a.m. for the morning classes and 1:05 p.m. for the afternoon classes.
Pick-Up / Drop-Off Time
Please be prompt in dropping off and picking up your child. If you are late, we have to remain with your child until their ride arrives. Students are not permitted to hang around before and after lessons. Arriving five to ten minutes before a class is an encouraged practice as this allows students time to stow their gear in a crate, change clothing and shoes, and apply sunblock.
