Sailing Director- David Korb
David excitedly returns as Head Sailing Director! He learned to sail at BSS as a child and is an active member of The Buzzards Yacht Club (Buzzards YC), where he has served as Race Committee Chairman and Board member for many years. He is delighted to lead BSS as it played an important role in his engagement in the sport. David has sailed and raced in a variety of dinghies throughout his life including Widgeons, 420s, I420s, FJs, and Cook 11s. He was an active member of the American Yacht Club frostbite fleet for nearly a decade. He also enjoys big boats, raced in two Bermuda Races and sailed from Tahiti to Hawaii aboard a 65 ft. sloop. His love of the water extends beyond sailing. On Spring afternoons he can be found on the Charles River coaching middle school rowing for Boston College High School. Away from his water activities, David is an independent educational consultant and enjoys working with students from all over the world for independent school and college entrance. He is an American Red Cross certified lifeguard and holds US Sailing Level 1 and 2 certificates
Program Administrator - Susan Baracchini
Susan returns for her seventh summer as BSS Program Administrator, working year-round to keep Buzzards moving forward in the offseason. Sue handles the marketing, our Facebook page, our weekly parent meetings, registration, merchandise, parent questions, and more. Sue is the mother of three adult sons, runs her own business as a Photo Organizer and lives year-round with her husband, Ken, in Pocasset.
Senior Instructor - Liz Peterson
Liz has been sailing at BSS since she was ten and returns as our most tenured Senior Instructor. She attends Elon University in North Carolina where she is majoring in Communication Design. Liz works for The Edge Magazine at Elon in the beauty and wellness section. She cannot wait to get back on the water and share her love for sailing!
Senior Instructor - Jack Murray
Jack has been sailing on Buzzards Bay since he was eight years old. Jack will be returning for his second season and his sixth season on the staff. He started off racing in Optis and competing in the local regattas as well as most recently racing 420s throughout the South Shore and Cape. He enjoys racing his Laser in the Buzzards YC series as well crewing for Herreshoffs and on big boats whenever he can. Jack sailed on the Georgetown University sailing team this year and is excited to bring his college sailing experience back to the program. He hopes to continue to share his passion for sailing and excitement towards the sport with the BSS.
Senior Instructor - Finn Bascio
Finn has been sailing for as long as he can remember and has been sailing at Buzzards since he was eight. He has raced Optis, 420s, and lasers and he also participates during the Wednesday night big boat series races. This past year he was a freshman at McGill University where he is studying environmental science and international relations. He also races on the McGill sailing team where he competes in the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Conference and the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Associate. This year they won team race nationals, fleet race nationals and team of the year in CISCA. This is Finn’s first year as a Senior Instructor at BSS. He notes he is “extremely excited” for this upcoming summer!
Senior Instructor - Hadley O'Sullivan
Hadley has been sailing at Buzzards for eight years. This upcoming summer will be her fourth year working at Buzzards and first summer as a Senior Instructor. In the fall of 2019, she will be a freshman in college studying nursing while also participating as a member of her college sailing team. The past four years in high school she has played soccer and been an active member of the Best Buddies community. Her favorite thing about Buzzards Sailing School is a fun and energetic environment. She loves showing up to camp every day to see the students enjoying the sport as much as she does.
Senior Instructor - James Kiley
James has been sailing at BSS for the past ten years. This summer will be his first year as a Senior Instructor and his fifth year on the staff. This summer, James will have finished his freshman year at Lafayette College. He is studying mechanical engineering and plays on the school’s hockey team. In high school, he was a varsity sailor for all four years and came fourth in the Massachusetts State Championship as a junior. James’ favorite thing about coming to Buzzards every year is the community that has been built around the program and how close everyone is with each other.
